Additionally, adjusting the bass had too much effect on the midrange. Same went for the mids and highs as well. They affect each other too much, and their useful range becomes too narrow.

Traditional 3 band equalizers are not that useful in performance, they contain only three (or fewer) filters in order to avoid taxing the CPU. The same problem applies in the analog world, where number of components are the limiting factor.
The uniquely efficient Superpowered 3 band equalizer has 6 unique filters inside. When setting the desired sound, the filters are dynamically adjusted without any CPU processing penalty.
